Cello Lessons - Suzuki and Traditional

Jonathan Tosio holds a BMus (perf) and STCA (Primary), and has taught cello for 16 years, including at Camberwell Grammar, Trinity Grammar, Xavier College and East Bentleigh Primary School in its Steiner stream. He teaches from a home studio in Windsor, drawing on both Suzuki and Traditional methods and adapting his approach to each student. Lessons focus on efficient body set-up and tone, with a preparatory period offered for young Suzuki students aged 3 to 6. Prospective students are welcome to observe a lesson before starting.

Violin Lessons

Alexander White holds a Master of Arts (Music Performance), an Honours Degree in Advanced Musical Performance Studies and a Bachelor of Music Performance, and has taught for 20 years, including ten as Head of Strings at Mount Waverley Secondary College. He has also taught at schools such as Melbourne Grammar, MacRobertson Girls' School and Tintern Grammar, and tutored for the Melbourne Youth Music Program, the Victorian State School Spectacular and the Monash University Academy Orchestra. As a performer he has appeared with the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic and alongside artists including Andrea Bocelli, Tina Arena and Sigur Ros, performing across Australia, Europe, Asia and South America, and he received the Monash University Chamber Music Prize along with a scholarship to study and perform in South America. His violin and viola lessons focus on technical foundation and musicianship with music reading taught from the outset, and he prepares students for AMEB exams, VCE Units 1 to 4, IB assessments, eisteddfods, scholarships and university auditions from his Richmond home studio or online.

Online Skype/FaceTime Piano Lessons

Angus holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Music from the University of Melbourne and completed AMEB Grade 8 in 2010. He works as a pianist and keyboardist in Melbourne with 9 years of industry performance experience, and has taught for 12 years, including VCE Music preparation and AMEB exams to Grade 8. Lessons follow a personalised study program built around each student's goals, with attention to technique and musicality alongside reading, improvisation, composition, harmony and history. Online lessons use a keyboard camera view, screen sharing, whiteboard and PDF materials, email questions are answered within 24 hours, and students can take part in an annual end-of-year concert.

Curlew Drums

Curlew has been teaching drums for 15 years in Toorak, preparing students for AMEB and Trinity exams. Their experience includes teaching students with special needs, ASL students, and very young beginners. Lessons are tailored to each student's needs and can accommodate most curriculums, with the option to focus on techniques, advanced beats or jamming.

Saxophone

Casey Greene graduated in Jazz Studies from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1985 and studied under Don Burrows AO MBE. Casey worked full time in Sydney musical theatre from 1985 to 2004, playing in productions including Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Les Miserables and Chicago, and has performed as a jazz soloist across the UK. Teaching has spanned schools in Australia, the UK and Wales, along with private one to one lessons from 2004 to 2020, with students going on to full time university music study. Lessons cover clarinet, saxophone and flute, are held online via video call with flexible scheduling by request, and include preparation for classical or jazz exams.

Erin Mannix holds a British Diploma of Musical Theatre from Associated Studios and completed full time Acting for Stage and Screen at Patrick School of the Arts, along with study at Justin Lehmann Acting Studio, short courses with NIDA, APO Arts Academy Melbourne, ASA, AAA, The Space and Andrew Byrne, and Estill Method vocal training. Her private singing training has been with Leontine Hass, Adam Lyon, Amanda Colliver and Martin Croft, and she has performed in the contemporary music scene since age 13 in stage bands, choirs, bands, duos and as a solo vocalist nationally, as well as in theatre productions including Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, Pride and Prejudice and Repentance Creek. Lessons are hands-on and practical, tailored to each student, combining vocal exercises and warmups with chosen repertoire and a holistic focus on safe, effective vocal technique. She teaches in St Kilda East and Balaclava, St Albans and online.

Piano Lessons

Daniel Mougerman completed a Bachelor of Music at Monash University in 2015, studying with Paul Grabowsky, Tony Gould and Sam Keevers, and has since taken Afro-Cuban piano lessons with Alejandro Falcon in Cuba, jazz piano with Benito Gonzales in New York, and private tuition from John Taylor in Italy and Brent Fischer. He performs with The Bamboos, Adrian Eagle, Rita Satch and his own groups, and has toured Australia, Europe and the USA with appearances at The Great Escape, Jam Cruise, Byron Bay Bluesfest and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. From his Balaclava studio he prepares students for AMEB exams as well as tertiary institution and scholarship auditions, with students winning competitions around Victoria, being selected as pianists for the Victorian State School Spectacular, and going on to study at Monash University and the VCA. He encourages students to seek out performance opportunities, whether they are working towards exams or playing recreationally.

Double Bass Lessons

Jonah Grant holds a Bachelor of Music Performance (Jazz) from Monash University and works as a double bass player in Melbourne. He teaches from home in Elsternwick and can also travel to a student's location for a travel fee. His lessons build technical, aural and theoretical skills, with an emphasis on relaxed physical technique using large muscle groups and on aural pattern recognition as a way of learning music.

Guitar Lessons - Lee Jones, Ph.D.

Lee Jones teaches guitar in Melbourne and prepares students for graded repertoire through ABRSM, Rockschool and AMEB. He has authored an ebook available on ResearchGate. His lessons emphasise fundamental technique across rhythm and lead guitar, covering both plectrum and fingerstyle playing, sight-reading, ear training and transcription. He also works on improvisation, composition and arranging, and helps students build practice routines.
